Notes for HOKEY

Hokehoke may be the same person as Hokey who was associated with a whitem an
named Arthur Kearney. There were supposidely two sons in this relations hip,
Jeremiah Kearney and Iklanabbee AKA John Carney. Note: There is no pr oof of
this tie. I am including them due to speculation and for research p urposes
only. Please use caution when researching this Kearney line. The L eFlore line
however, is in good shape with adequate documentation. JCT 7/1 7/03

Cautionary Note Per DJ Thornton per E-Mail of 2/11/04:
There is no proof that Iklanabbee is the son of Arthur Kearney or Carne y.
From the research of DJ Thornton and June Pollard, Iklanabbee and Arth ur
Kearney are approximately the same age with both listed on the "same Ar
mstrong Attachment requesting to remain on land in Mississippi". "Iklanabb ee
also migrated in 1832 to Choctaw Nation, IT."

Additionally:
"If there is any Carney Connection to those in Tennessee and Mississip pi it
is thru Sally Carney who married Iklanabbee in Mississippi and nam ed her son
John. Iklanabbee took the name of Carney after marrying Salli e. There is a
lot of confusion on Sallie that is causing the errors, mo re than 1 Sallie."

"I also have a copy of Jerry, baptismal record and the Hoke is spelled Hok ey.
This is on-going research and time will tell, but we do not need to p ut out
as I said info that is assumed in error by Jim Carney who is resear ching,
Tennessee Carneys' of one line, and June Pollard has been researchi ng this
for 20 years. She would be the authority on anything to do with th ese two
individuals.
Thanks
DJ

Source: David S. Payne, website: http://worldconnect.ge
nealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=otime : The meaning of "HOLDER" wo men
is not clearly understood. Could they have been sisters; or, did the term
"HOLDER woman," imply, perhaps, that they were Indians. Some researchers
believe the term "Holder Women" was generally used to indicate "Indian Women"
in that part of North Carolina. However, after considerable research, it
appears that the Bunch and Holder families are non-Indian of English origins.
However, it does appear the Anne Ayn is a Catawba and this is most likely
where the family story comes from.
